Relaxation is the gateway to the Subconscious Mind. By becoming still, relaxing the mind, body, and emotions, the subconscious mind is accessed and the Conscious Mind, though still present, takes a bit of a backseat. It is in this extremely relaxed state that our minds are ripe for suggestion and old belief systems can be changed, new belief systems created.  Suggestion is not designed by the practitioner but simply pointed out between the time passed since the incident and the initial "trauma". A more profound state of awareness through focus and relaxation can induce the theta state of mind, where the subconscious can successfully be "reprogrammed".
